Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

Hey, Froggers!

This week I read from a Jataka anthology. I'm here to summarize the story for you and share my thoughts!
The first story I want to cover is titled The Turtle and the King. In this story, the turtle is very cunning, something I hope to one day become. The story begins with the king's young princes playing near the lake. They happen themselves upon a turtle and flee in fear! This is something that is very common in the animal kingdom. Humans find animals and they are scared of them! Can you believe that? This ginormous creature is scared of a tiny animal like me. I can guarantee you that us small animals are more terrified of humans than they are of us. Anyways, so the princes run away and tell the king that they saw a demon in the lake. A demon. A turtle is a demon.. I'm convinced sometimes that humans just have it out for us. So then the king ordered the guards to seize the turtle demon and bring it back to palace. The humans have the audacity to grab the turtle and bring it back, so then they decide how they will kill this turtle demon. They are brainstorming ideas when someone says, "Let's throw the turtle into the water! It will surely die." The cunning turtle gets an idea and pleads with the humans not to be thrown into the water, back into his home. The humans decide that this is most torturous route and throw the turtle into the water. OUCH! At least the turtle gets to live in the end and outsmarted the humans.
